"Escapades" is a song performed by Azealia Banks. It serves as the eleventh track on Azealia's mixtape, Fantasea II: The Second Wave. It was released on September 1, 2017, as the first promotional single of the album.
Background[]
A 25-second snippet of the track was released via Banks’ now inactive Twitter account, @XoCheapy. with a scheduled release on the 31st of May 2017. However, these plans were delayed in order to push forward the June 2017 release of Banks’ song, “Chi Chi”.
On June 25th, 2017, Banks tweeted that she was sharing a free demo version on the song before the official release, titling it “Escapades (48K Monitor Mix)” as a gift to her fans before the official release on iTunes later that week.
Banks’ returned to Twitter to answer questions regarding her upcoming release and assured fans that “Escapades” would in fact be the first official single from her third mixtape. “Escapades” will be joining already released tracks “Venus”, “Count Contessa” and “Along The Coast.“ The mixtape currently has an unconfirmed 2018 release date.
On the 26th of June Banks’ shared a fan-made cover for “Escapades” initiating the word be spelled correctly, which led to another version of the song to be released on her Soundcloud account.
Music and composition[]
On her CHEAPYXO Twitter account, Banks described “Escapades” as “Chaka Khan meets New Order”. She also described its sound as “very orgasmic” although not being “a sexual song,” with more singing rather than rap.[1]
The song was originally conceived as the unreleased track "Bizarra", produced by Disclosure, which was intended for Banks' debut studio album Broke with Expensive Taste.

“When I was a little girl I remember the women in my family having such large pubic bushes and always thinking it was some sort of strange/cool," Banks said the now-deleted post. "When I was making #escapades I was pulling from all of my mothers references – Shanice, Donna summer, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Rachelle Ferrell- and she would always walk around the house naked doing her chores belting at the top of her lungs."
"We would make the joke that women coming of age in the 70's had a roller skating bush !" she continued. "Ironically – I wrote most of this song in the same fashion … walking round the house doing my chores and growing out my 1970's roller skating bush.”[2]

Anna Gaca, a writer for Spin, described the first two of the three versions of the song as "works-in-progress".[3]
